To tell you how to respond to an Ad in the newspaper, we have to go back to the source; The Newspaper. If you have a copy of the newspaper handy, grab it and let's go through it together. First, you'll notice that toward the end of each Personal Ad in the section, there is printed a 6 digit number. The 6 digit number is the 'Member ID.' You'll need that ID number to leave a message for the advertiser, so make a note of it. Now, towards the top of the section, you should be able to see the words 'To Listen And Respond To Ads, CallÉ' followed by either a 900 number or a toll free number and a price. The price is the cost per minute of the call. If you would like the price of the call to appear on your phone bill, simply dial the 900 number, choose the option 'To Respond To A Specific Member', and using the keys on your phone, enter the 6 digit member ID of the Advertiser that you'd like to leave the message for. You'll hear a greeting, recorded by the person that placed the ad, and you be instructed on how to leave a message for that person. It's really very easy. If you don't want the cost of the call to show up on your phone bill, you can call the toll free number listed under the 'To Listen And Respond To Ads' heading, and have it billed to a major credit card. Using a credit card will also make available to you certain discounts, which we are unable to offer you on the 900 line. Responding to ads can only be done over the phone and 900 numbers can not be dialed from a cell phone. If you do not want the cost of your call to appear either on your phone bill or your credit card bill, our customer service representatives can accept most payments by check or money order. If you would like to make a purchase using a check or money order, please send payment to TPI Payments, P.O Box 15592, Boston, MA 02215. Please make sure to make note the name of the newspaper and your phone number on the payment.
At the top of the Personals Page it will list the cost to respond to the Ads. The cost will be listed with the phone numbers to call to respond to the Ads. If you use your credit card, there are several cost saving options available when you call the respondent line.
If you would like the price of the call to appear on your phone bill, simply dial the 900 number listed on the Personals page. If you would like to pay with a major credit card, you can call the toll free number listed on the Personals page. We accept VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. If you would like to make a purchase using a check or money order, please send payment to "TPI Payments, P.O Box 15592, Boston, MA 02215". Please make sure to make note the name of the newspaper and your phone number on the payment.
There are a couple of reasons why you may be having trouble calling a 900 number. For example, if your phone carrier does not have an agreement with our 900 service provider, your calls to our 900 phone line will unfortunately not be connected. Also, you may be experiencing difficulty due to an unpaid bill attached to the phone number that you are calling from. Please also remember that 900 numbers can not be dialed from a cell phone. However, you can still use our service, and respond to members by using a major credit card, personal check or money order to purchase a discounted prepaid block of phone time.
Save time and money when listening to your matches and messages by purchasing a pre-paid block of time. You only need to enter your credit card information once, and the more time you buy, the more money you save. You can use your Block of Time as many times as you like, until the time has all been used. Members get 30 minutes at 15% off, 45 minutes for 20% off, or receive the maximum discount of 25% for 60 minutes. Non-Members get 30 minutes at 10% off, 45 minutes at 15% off, or receive the maximum discount of 20% for 60 minutes. Please note that block of time purchases are non-refundable.
The Smart way to listen to all those messages and new matches is with our SmartDate monthly subscription. With one low monthly rate can get you unlimited access to all of your messages and matches. You may cancel the re-billing of your SmartDate account, and leave it active for the remainder of the time you've paid for, but please note that the month previously billed is non-refundable. For example, if your account is due to re-bill on July 30th, but you cancel on July 14th, your account will remain active until July 30th, but it will not be extended beyond that date. You will not be eligible for a refund if you choose not to use your account during that time. Please note that as long as you are still able to use the matching features of this service, your membership is considered active, regardless of the status of a print-ad. Your subscription will remain active as long as your membership, and automatically rebill your credit card, unless you cancel it.

Yes. Although we strongly suggest that all members record a Voice Greeting, some members chose to stay anonymous and prefer to not record one. You will still be able to leave them a message and that member will still be able to receive your message.
When you join this service, we'll match you with other members based on your preferences with regard to gender, age, and ethnicity. You will NOT be matched to anyone who does not at least meet these preferences. We will also ask you your preferences regarding smoking and children, and we will introduce you to those members first. We match you with members who are within a certain number of miles of the zip or postal code you provided for us, depending on where you live. We recommend, when you're making your choices, that you try to create a broad range so that you can receive more matches. For example, you will have a better chance of getting more matches if you choose an age range of about seven years as opposed to trying to meet someone, say, between the ages of 37 and 39.
A Message is when someone has left you a personal message in your box after hearing your voice greeting. When leaving a message, the person is instructed to leave you a method of reaching them (phone number, email, or their box number). A Match is sent to your box after our system analyses your profile and Matches you up with others. When you listen to a Match, you are hearing that person's Voice Greeting, and you have the option to leave them a personal message.
To listen to your Messages and Matches, call the membership line and log onto your account. Choose the option of "To Connect with Other Members," then choose option 1 (to listen to your Messages and Matches).
Your Voice Greeting is your opportunity to tell the people you want to meet exactly who you are, in your own words! Give a description of yourself; talk about some of things you like to do in your free time, and what you do for work. Also, make sure you describe the kind of person you'd like to meet. What kind of qualities and interests should the person you're looking for have? It's ok to mention some of the things you've already put in your print ad, because not all of your matches will see it. It's not ok to leave your last name, any addresses - including email - phone numbers, or to say anything sexually explicit or inappropriate. Your greeting will not be approved if you do. Most importantly, relax. You can listen to and re-record your greeting as many times as you like - until you're satisfied with it. You have up to three minutes to record your greeting, so take your time and have some fun with it.
Although we can't promise that every message you leave will result in a call back, we do have a couple of tips to increase the likelihood that someone will call you back. When you respond to an ad, make sure that you listen to the member's voice greeting. People will often use their voice greeting to ask for specific information from the caller. If you don't provide that information, they may not call you back. When you do leave your message, leave the member more than just your name and your phone number. You've seen their ad heard their greeting, so you know quite a bit about them. Let them know something about you. Tell them who you are, what you do and what it was about their ad that made you want to call. The more information you leave in your message, the more comfortable the member will be calling you back. And, make sure that whatever else you say, you do include your name and phone number in your message. No one can call you back if you don't let them know how. If you would prefer not to leave a phone number, make sure you give the member contact information of some kind. If you leave an email address, it might be a good idea to spell it out. Finally, be patient. It may take some time for you to connect with the right person. To find that person, the time should be an investment that you are willing to make.
There are a few reasons why you may not be getting the amount of responses you were expecting.
The first thing that we can suggest is that you to take a look at the ads that appear in the paper. Does your ad look a lot like the other ads in the section? If it does, that could be the problem. Your ad should be a reflection of who you are and what makes you unique. Don't be afraid to put your personality into your ad. For instance, many people like to mention that they enjoy movies. That's a fine thing to enjoy, but if that is all that you say, that doesn't really tell anyone anything about you. Instead, you can be a little more specific. Entail your ad to reflect your favorite movie by saying something like, "Juliet seeks Romeo who enjoys secret kisses, roses, poetic music, and the occasional fancy dress events. Clear communication is a must to prevent a tragic ending." You don't have to use Romeo and Juliet in your ad just because we chose it as an example. This approach can, and should be, modified to fit your particular interests; be it cooking, music, writing or even bungie jumping. So take a little time to think about what you really want to tell people about yourself, and then place your ad. If you find yourself stumped, or if you'd like to take advantage of any of the special features that we offer to enhance your ad, like extra words, one of our customer service representatives will be happy to help you.
Secondly, it may be time to update your voice greeting. A lot of people view their voice greeting as an afterthought to their print ad, but that's not the case with our service. Since the people responding to your ad don't know you, you are making your first impression with your greeting. It's ok to repeat some things that you mentioned in your print ad, as well as to go into detail about the things that you did mention in your ad. Again, going with the movie example, you can talk about the last movie you saw. What specifically you liked about it; and if you have one, what's your favorite snack you like to get at the concession stand. Additionally, you can use your greeting to ask the caller for whatever information you feel is important. You want to know more than just their name and their phone number right? So tell them that! As we said earlier, take some time to figure out what you want to say, and then record your greeting. You can even write it out before you record it, if you want. Remember that the more information you provide in your greeting, the more comfortable someone will be when leaving you a message.
Finally, remember that as a member, you don't have to wait for people to come to you. Respond to your matches, or even to other ads in the paper. Tell people why you are responding to them and what you liked about their greeting or their ad. Because you're a member, you're entitled to some great deals for all the aspects of our service. So don't be afraid to take advantage of them.
If you're not satisfied with the response you are getting from your matches, maybe it's time to update your voice greeting. A lot of people view their voice greeting as an afterthought to their print ad, but that's not the case with our service. There's a good chance that your matches haven't seen your print ad, which means that you are making your first impression with your greeting. To re-record your voice greeting, call the membership line and log into your account. Option 3 will let you listen to and re-record your Voice Greeting. Your current greeting will stay on line until your new one is approved. Remember that your greeting will not be approved if you leave your last name, any addresses - including email - or phone numbers, or if you say anything sexually explicit or inappropriate.
We highly recommend that you record a voice greeting on this service. Remember, it's totally free to do, and we've found that people are more likely to leave messages when you have a greeting recorded. You are not required to do this, but it is highly recommended.
